But have we thought about all the money and time and gas and everything else that it saves us in the end? Because we can build subways/light rails/public transit… or we can all try to drive to work at the same time and sit in gridlock burning gas wasting time and being pissed off because the roads can’t handle it.

And good luck fixing all the roads and infrastructure to prevent the twice a day gridlock cheaper than this public transit.

It’s more the kind of “joke” that makes fun of people who think that kids just magically transition during a class period one day without approval or those considerations you spoke of.

Sometimes, people make tongue in cheek statements like this to spread the message and remind people just how idiotic the one’s spreading the misinformation are, and that I stand behind because normalizing that info without pointing out the blatant absurdity of the misinformation is how we end up spreading it further.

I actually think this is funny. And alarming, but not the way I hear people talk about this. I feel like Apple was really smart here, offering a fairly measly, cheap, pointless trinket to continue making money hand over fist in the US. Tim was smart here, ROI must have been MASSIVE for that with the tariffs and such.

However the real reason I think this is interesting is that it shows publicly and blatantly just how easily Trump can be paid off and placated and should have been be a huge wake up call for ANY of his supporters and peers. Between this and the FIFA trinket, no one in government should be so easily bought/paid off. I never got why people didn’t go after Trump legally and in the news for even thinking of accepting something like this.

Companies need to make line go up. You could increase productivity by using more tech (computers, tools, etc), but you can also do it by working longer. So the people in charge said “why not both?!” And here we are.

I feel like some of it also is “work until you’re done” still. Hourly jobs pay per hour. But salary jobs typically pay you for work accomplishments, not time. Unfortunately I feel like a lot of tech improvements and processes have oversold their productivity improvements… example: AI will make you go code 10x as fast! So managers hear that (typically upper management, not middle/lower management who actually see it) and thus expect people to instantly do 10x the work. So you now have to bust your ass off working longer hours to meet that expectation. Good middle management will push back and reset expectations, but often the damage is done when they can half their work force with the assumption that they’re going to be so much more productive now that this new magical tool is in place.

Leave out the AI parts and you’re right. People just don’t realize that Trump will make it very hard to do business in the US if you don’t follow his requests.

To the level that should be (and in many cases are but haven’t yet been challenged successfully in court) illegal for the president to do, for many reasons.

Why should I have to pay a fee for YOU to take my money? Do you not want my money?

I want to pay for services rendered at an agreed upon price. If you want my money for those services, then it’s on you to pay those fees. End of story.

Seriously. Wipe it, claim it’s new to you or whatever, put your stuff back on later if you need to. I’m sure you can find somewhere or someone you trust to get you that data back whenever you actually need it.

Cost of doing business… if they aren’t going to own up and make changes to prevent it in the future, what’s the point?

If you did this, you’d have like 20 CD’s by the end of the year (way more id you can find used ones) that you completely own and no one can pull the license for later.
