This weeks claim to intelligence is “We used super secret stolen maths!”… So? It’s still going to be a jelly-brained idiot like every other model produced - because it’s a technology for generating averageness.
It’s not intelligent, it can’t experience the world. They desperately want this moderately good searching and averaging algorithm to be their intelligent progeny - and it never will be.
This shit has me so fucked up. GPT is incapable of actual reasoning, but says what’s “likely” to come next. Actual genius comes from nuance and novel approaches. When the fuck have we lost the plot this hard?
There’s a Super Smash Brothers Melee decomp that was just recentlynfinished thanks to AI. It helped with looping the shit outta processes, wasn’t allowed to do any “thinking” and was just a jig fuckin’ macro. The one thing it does well is it brute-forces gruntwork (and sometimes accidentally outputs a statistically most-correct answer).
Did it think? Did it reason? No. It was a shitload of loops and comparisons that just take a while, manually.
I think it’s great that they set it on open math problems for this reason.
It’s relatively straight forward to prove/disprove if it did anything novel or just combined a bunch of things it’s trained on like i’d expect.
